Upcoming in San Pedro

This week we have two events happening in Templo Cristiano Libertad. On Friday evening we are holding our first ever women's conference, which we are hoping will become an annual or biannual event. The theme is (and I cannot, for the life of me, memorize it....) "Mujeres: Saetas en manos de Dios" which, translated, means, "Women: Arrows in the Hand of God".

The second event is on Saturday, and it is a city-wide youth service, which happens every two months or so, and this time it's TCL's turn to host. Please keep these two events in prayer, asking God for good attendance and that many lives will be touched.

Also, in July Marcos Witt will be giving a concert in Tepic, and Elisa will be opening for him (here's a link to the Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/454888911270493/); something else to be in prayer for!

Baptisms

We've had several baptisms in the past month or so, and here are some pictures (which I finally figured out how to get off my phone....sigh...). They are all young people who have come to the church in the past year.

May in San Pedro

In Mexico, the month of May is full of "days": Children's Day, Mothers' Day (May 10), Teachers' Day, the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla (May 5).....which means a lot of school holidays. Last week we celebrated the accomplishments of our children in a special Thursday service, where each class shared what they had learned in the past quarter, sang, and several graduated to a new class. Last week El Calor played a 2nd Division tournament (Copa Santos) and won 4th place. On Monday at 7:30 our short-term weekly rehab meetings will begin. We are also planning a women's conference for May 31. Please be in prayer for these ministries and stay tuned for more news from San Pedro!

Elizabeth Tolman: May 5, 1932-April 22, 2013

Here are a few pictures from last week from Elizabeth's funeral service and interment. The Tolman family gathered in Tepic to be with David and to celebrate Elizabeth's life. Please continue to keep the family in your prayers. Here's a link to a tribute page from Destiny Church, David and Elizabeth's home church for many years.

Continued prayer for Elizabeth and family

Please continue to keep Elizabeth and the whole family in your prayers. She is in hospital and is comfortable, sleeping most of the time and surrounded by family. Yesterday during brief moments of consciousness she was singing hymns and seemed at peace.

SHM on Facebook

SHM Facebook

Here's a link to SHM's Facebook page, still in the process of being built! Please stop by and like the page, and feel free to post any pictures you might have of David and Elizabeth, Stephen, Philip, of any visits to Mexico, etc.

New Ministry Project

This month we are starting a new ministry project, a community rehab group for people struggling with addictions. It won't be a group home like the other centers in San Pedro and Torreon but a support group for people to talk about their addictions and receive coping strategies and prayer. Right now it is a short-term project but we are praying that it will be effective and touch the lives of many people here in San Pedro who need help. Please be in prayer for this project and I will be keeping you updated on its progress.

Update

Just a few quick notes from this week in San Pedro:

  • El Calor played in San Pedro yesterday and unfortunately lost 2-1. Next week the team is traveling to Michoacán.
  • After the game our youth group went to a nearby neighbourhood and did street evangelism and dramas, their first outing of the new year with more to come!
  • This week we will be getting ready for our annual youth camp (see previous post)
  • We're glad to have Stephen back after two weeks spent traveling and ministering in the States.
Please keep the soccer ministry and upcoming camp in your prayers. As well, please keep praying for David and Elizabeth; for those of you who don't know, Elizabeth had a fall last week and broke her leg, and this has added to an already-difficult situation. Also keep Philip and his family in your prayers as they have had the responsibility of caring for David and Elizabeth throughout this time.
